944 vs. toyota supra, how can i do it?KJhEngineswap 08-31-2006, 06:11 PM Im looking into getting back in a 944. This time around I want to do it right. My brother has a 1993 twin turbo toyota supra that is stock and runs a 13 flatish in the 1/4 mile. I want to know what would be the most cost effiecent way of gettin my car even with him. Should I go 1989 944 turbo and upgrade the turbo, what should I do? Can the transaxle handle that horsepower? I know it's not made to be a drag car but I want to be able to out run his $22,000 car in every aspect. It's a little brother thing. KJhEngineswap 09-03-2006, 02:27 AM Well since I have had no reply and a good deal of time to look into it, this is what Im thinking and if there is anyone who disagrees then speak up. Im going to buy a 1988 porsche 944 turbo (951) and upgrade it using the stage 3 turbo kit speed 6 has. This should put me upwards of 340rwhp, costing me roughly 5 grand. And then buy a LSD so that power can grip better. I think that should easily take my brothers supra. I was considering buying a 1987 944 NA, and installing a super charger offerd by speedforceracing.com but the NA would need more suspension work and the LSD as well and wouldn't be quite as fast with only 222rwhp. IM thinking after all cost, Turbo kit, LSD, Rim/tire, it should run me around $15000-$16000 in the end if nothing goes wrong of course and you never know with 944's. What do you think? DrivenSolo1988 10-26-2006, 06:06 AM sounds like it will work out to me but you never know what could happen, just make sure all the normal maintinence is done also. Im also thinking about getting another 944 turbo i sold mine about a year ago and got a 01 mustang but i miss my 944 so ive ben looking into getting another one and year getting an 88 or 89 would be the best bet because they have increased hp over the previous years and also the 89 comes with lsd im pretty sure but you would have to look into that. good luck with your project :) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
