Well everyone, I'm a guy that likes the idea of diesel engines and such, and can't afford a new VW TDI, or a MB E320 CDI either. So, I was looking through the local classifieds, and came upon an old 80 VW Rabbit diesel for $800. It said the only thing wrong with it was a "bad passenger driveshaft." I assume this means halfshaft or something. Is it worth it? I am an apprentice at Mercedes Benz, and need it to be a reliable vehicle that is economical. (The Jeep Wrangler I have and love isn't economical.) If I'm late due to anything, lets just say its bad news for me. I can miss a total of 6 hours between now and Dec. 31st. So, grab a Rabbit diesel for $800 and fix it up or no? It said the body was in good condition, as was the interior. In the South, generally body rust isn't as bad of a problem as in the Northern states or anything.
