hey guys, i have a 2000 altima gxe and have a few questions that i thought you might be able to help with.

1. when i am driving, the car makes a sound, almost like its releasing air. i think the sound is coming from under the car, but i haven't a clue as to what it could be, it doesn't make the sound in neutral, just when i'm driving and also when the cruise is on.

2. my brake light on my dash won't go off. i recently had the back brakes replaced and the mechanic said they were tight so he loosened the e-brake so he could fit the shoes on the drums. well, the light came on the other night and stays on most all the time, but it does go out every now and again. i accidentally disconnected the e-brake yesterday, as i was trying to loosen it more, like the mechanic did, but the light's still on.

3. last, my gas mileage is terrible, i've only gone 120 miles and my car's on 1/2 tank. i had my plugs and wires changed last month, so i know they're not the culprit. do you think it could have something to do with the brake situation?

thanks for the help!!!

The brake light problem could be caused by the shop leaving the brake cable to loose so it's not putting enough pressure on the light switch or low brake fluid in the master cylinder. I would take it back to them.

The best way to check fuel mileage it to fill the tank, drive it for a few days then refill the tank and figure the miles per gallon. Fuel gauges are not accurate enough to use for mile calculations

still nothing on the sound, even the dealership has no idea...

found out the brake light is due to a leaky wheel cylinder on my drivers side

thanks guys!

I am noticing that automotive agencies don't really know what the are doing. I get better results from these foruns than from the actual dealer!
