even more check engine problems with a 2000 beetlebugwugly 08-28-2006, 02:54 PM Hello again everyone, I recently put my 2000 2.0 in the shop, they handed it back to me after three days and told me they had no idea what was going on. I have a check engine light that constantly stays on, and while it would seem to be related to replacing the mass air flow sensor, it does not. I seem to have trouble when I start the car. It will start fine and idle fine, but when it comes time to give it some gas, it whimps out on me. It has not stalled. So, I get the car home and start looking into some other things. I first check the wiring harness to the Maf sensor and it is fine. I then look in the fuse box to see if it is blown, and it is not. However, there are FAR TOO FEW amps going to the fuse. I am convinced that this is either a wiring problem or a relay issuse. Has anyone out there experienced somthing like this before? Does anyone have any idea what course of action I should take? I am the owner of one of these fine machines. Anyway, my mechanic who specializes in volkswagons, has realized that the Beetles are notorious for the main computers in the car overheating. They seem to always burn our light bulbs and things of this nature. What he has done to fix the problem on alot of these, is that he drilled a hole in the main computer, where it wont affect the performance and it allows the airflow that is needed.
