View Full Version : Best way to clean this up Best way to clean this up austinnp 08-27-2006, 09:58 PM Looks are not of great importance, just getting rid of the rust and getting it a shade of black is all I am looking for. Just looking for some guidelines here and perhaps what kind of products, ie what kind of sandpaper or should I pickup a piece of hardware? Anything would be apreciated, thanks http://www.jerky.net/~nick/car1.jpg http://www.jerky.net/~nick/car2.jpg dave92cherokee 08-28-2006, 09:10 PM Best thing to do is get a good quality hand held grinder with grinding wheel and use it to grind the rust off but make sure you go past the rust under where the paint still looks good to make sure there's no rust under it too. As for the rear tire holder use the grinder on it to and that will also help knock down the large welds on it and make it appear to have been built better at the same time. If you do it that way use the grinder to get rid of the rust use around a 2 or 300 grit sand paper then get a red scrub pad which is the same as about 600 grit and after all that it basically takes it back to looking like satin polished steel then prime it good and paint it good. my99cavy 08-28-2006, 09:15 PM Well the obvious cure to rid that problem is to replace them with new parts or new-used parts.
