i have 2 ford taurus's, one is a 98 with the 3.0 duratec ax4n transmisson, and also a 95 taurus with the 3.0 vulcan ax4od trans. My problem is the transmission in my 95 has bit the dust, and my 98 has a freshly rebuilt transmission but the engine is shot, would the trans from my 98 drop right into my 95? also the 98 is a floor shift and the 95 is a column shift, was told by a friend that might make a difference too...any suggestions???

The bolt patterns should line up but the problem is the computer, the ax4n uses a very unique tranny calibration that isn't found in the 2nd generation Taurii.

Also the flywheel on the Vulcan and Duratec are different I do belevie.

It will not fit,one year interchange and that is what Ford does on their electronic transmissions.the 1998 transmssion probally fits only 1998.Check with an auto salvage yard on this.

Two different transmission models, AXOD and AX4N are similar, both have been bolted to the vulcan before, but if you were to get an AX4N, you'd have to get the computer for it too becuase it won't work with the AXOD computer. Not sure about sensors and the like.
