96 GrandVoyagerSE 3.3 shutting offFranktheFixer 08-24-2006, 06:15 PM I just installed a radiator fan relay and a new fan assembly- job went well, van worked for a few days. Wife's driving it today and it just powered down on the road- when I got to the van I tried starting it, it turned and turned but wouldn't start. Then it started and ran for about 10-20 seconds and shuts itself off- I started it again, same thing 10-20 seconds then shut off, 3 times. Key codes give me start11, 54, end55- cam sensor I guess. The time between taking out the old fan assy and getting and installing the new assy was about two weeks- did i knock a plug out and forget to put it back or something? any ideas? much appreciated karivv 08-27-2006, 12:50 PM I have the same exact van and am having a similar problem. I was getting codes 12 and 54. We replaced the cam sensor, but the dang thing shut off again today. We're going to replace the crank sensor and see if that's the problem. Code 11 is "No ignition reference signal detected during cranking (bad Hall effect) OR timing belt skipped one or more teeth; OR loss of either camshaft or crankshaft position sensor. Can cause the engine to stop working entirely with no limp-home mode." If I were you I'd try replacing both sensors. FranktheFixer 08-28-2006, 10:23 AM weird. Mine will start and sometimes run for a few minutes- then cut out. It run's smooth when it does run, I guess eliminating timing slip- I wonder if these sensors are near where I was working when I did the fans- where are they at anyway? Bear 08-28-2006, 11:22 AM Anoter place to look is the Crankshaft Position Sensor. I had this issue on my '98 Neon and she would crank, run for a few minutes and die. I could not code mine as you had to catch it when the engine was hot so I got her started, borrowed a scanner tool and waited till she died and instanly scanned her and the CPS came up. If you can get her started and get her to Auto Zone they will scan for free. FranktheFixer 08-29-2006, 08:58 PM anyone know where either of these two sensors are physically located- i can't seem to find it in the Haynes book snorkmaiden 08-22-2007, 02:29 PM Afternoon all, just dragging this old thread back up as it seems like the problem I am having with my van. It's a 1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager Rallye 3.3 L V6 Engine. The last couple of weeks, it's just been stopping. Only once or twice, it dropped out when I was idling, then it dropped out when I was driving slowly and then the last couple of days it's got worse and dropped out while I was on the highway. (no fun) I did the on off on off on thing with the ignition to get the engine codes and I am getting 12 - apparently this is Battery input to PCM disconnected during last 50 key starts. 54 - No cam position signal and 66 - No CCD bus messages The battery was disconnected two weeks ago as we have just moved to Canada and had to have daytime running lights done, so I guess the 12 code could just be that. Anyway, from what I can tell, I perhaps need a new cam sensor? If so, can anyone tell me where is it located? I am trying to work out if this is something easy that my other half could look at when he gets home from work, or is it the kind of job that requires a trip to garage for repairs? Cheers :grinyes: vgb14 08-24-2007, 08:50 AM Snorkmaiden, it may be as simple as too much carbon buildup on the automatic idle speed (AIS) motor - I would clean the throttle body and ais motor thoroughly with throttle body air intake (not carburetor) cleaner snorkmaiden 08-24-2007, 01:04 PM Thank you, I will pass this on to the other half and set him to work this weekend :grinyes: snorkmaiden 11-05-2007, 12:09 PM Just wanted to pull this back up to report the fix in case anyone else had this issue. We replaced the cam sensor, and that did the trick, no problems since. Cheers guys. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
