My '93 V63.2 Rodeo passed its annual state inspection last week, but the garage told me that my front right wheel bearing would need to be replaced soon. I've got 183K miles. I asked if the bearing could simply be repacked, but they told me there was play in it, and I should just have it replaced. Does this sound okay or should I try to have it repacked? I have not heard any noise coming from the wheel. If I do replace the bearing, can anyone advise what this repair should cost?
Thanks.

If it's not bad enough for them to fail you, it should be ok to repack them. I repack loose wheel bearing all the time and have no trouble. Just make sure you inspect the bearing races and rollers for scoring and damage.

Personally I would replace them. They dont cost much, easy to do and they've given you 183k miles.

Once its torn down enough to repack them you are almost done with everything you need to replace them. Just a matter of knocking out the old races and putting in the new ones.

I usually replace front wheel bearings around 100k miles as a matter of course.
