ethanol! Chevelle

Looks like most or all the local gas stations are putting 10 % ethanol in their gas. I always get the high test. Any worries about the ethanol rotting fuel lines or other problems?

I have a fuel filter on the carb. Believe ethanol dislodges sludge at the bottom of the gas tank and this certainly can be a problem.

Thanks for any replys.

You should really have no problem with the 10% mix. I do change my carb gas filter more often than I used to, about every 4 to 6 months just to be safe. I guess we'll eventually find out any long-term problems with the ethanol gas mix.

If you have a soldered brass float in your carb, it may eventually leak and fill, flooding the engine. Ethanol and methanol have an affinity for lead, so the solder and even some bronze can be dissolved slowly. I recently had a Q-Jet and Holley 4150 with brass floats and each had leakage. I changed to plastic floats all around for about ten bucks apiece and solved the issue. I've been using ethanol blends since about 1976.
