I am curious, my corner is constantly having accidents. The main avenue has the right of way, but they speed like no tomorrow and the side street has a stop sign but most cars have to go half way into the intersection to see if any cars are coming. I would like to get the city to put up a traffic light but I am curious as to know how does one go about getting a report of how many accidents have happen in one location. it seems that its one every three weeks, but I would like to be more accurate. So whats usually the procedure.

NYC? Good luck TS.

Seriously though, I'd start at the local police station. Chances are they've got the statistics for the accidents in their precinct, and although I'm not sure if it's public info (it may be, but they also may be reluctant to give it up). Ask them about getting a light put in.

You might also try one of the local TV stations. If it's bad enough, they may do a story on it; perhaps NYC is too large of a city to have that level or reporting, but I've seen similar spots in various places around the country that made the news. Washington DC and Richmond VA, while not nearly as large, have both had those types of stories.

You also might want to try your local office of the D.O.T.(Department of transportation. In our area,(upstate NY), they keep statistics of accident rates as well as traffic counts for roads and intersections.

try the computer, our local police put accidents in the computer for people to see, via the intranet. we can search date or time, intersection, road, name or ssn. its kinda nice
