Vintage Fairlady Z432R (Hasegawa kit) question

I've received the new Hasegawa Fairlady Z432R kit, and would like to know if anyone knows if this rare car (~30 were made as club-sport style race cars w/a few fiberglass parts, fewer standard features to save weight) came in standard 1970 Z car colors, or if the short production run of these cars were limited to fewer colors, or just the racing orange that is called out in the kit's directions?

I'm wanting to build mine accurately, but am hoping not to paint it orange if possible. Too many other orange models this year or in the works :icon16:

BTW, the kit looks very nice. Full-detail would have made it awesome. I have to build this one completely OOB for a magazine review.

I presume you already found this page?
http://zhome.com/History/432Z.htm

This passage stands out to me:
The R Model left the factory with the 4.5 inch steel wheels - as it was assumed that the racing teams would want to select and use their own wheel / tire combinations. The expensive Mag. wheels were standard on the 432 (not the 432 R )
If they knew they were selling to race teams and were thoughtful enough to cheap-out on the wheels like that, surely they would have delivered some in plain white?

That said, I can only find it in orange...

Looks like it also got a mention in the October 1986 issue of the Japanese version of Car and Driver. ;) Maybe they have a copy in your library? (Ha!)

Thanks, I did find those sites previously; I also found one being built (full detail from Fujimi kit) in Japan, and I think I saw some reference in one of his pics to one of the cars being green, but can't tell if it's a Z432R or "just" a Z432; I think it's the latter. Being that I don't have any Japanese vintage reference material, and can't read Japanese, I'm a bit lost :icon16:

One thing for sure, the Fujimi kit looks a bit "inflated" in front, especially. The Hasegawa kit looks deadly accurate for a Z car. It does have the correct optional alloys; they look good but I would have preferred the steelies. Nothing like a raw canvas!

I was also thinking "plain white wrapper" white for the car; or perhaps silver or yellow. They were available on other '70 Z cars. Any color is okay for OOB building, maybe I'm obsessing a bit too much over it :cwm27:

The bit next to the green car that Google's translator can't quite handle says something like:
First of all, it is KOCHIRA and Vol.96 (the April, 2003 issue). "A Fairlady Miracle" is entitled and the special edition is constructed about all the past Fairlady Z. It begins from the founder S30 and S130, Z31, etc. are covered. KOCHIRA is Paige of Z432 currently used also for the cover. Since Z432R of an engine etc. is fundamentally the same as that of Z432, there is likely to be data nature. However, Z432 of moss green is new. If it is called Z432, the image of an orange is strong in?

The green one is a "plain" Z432, and then he even mentions orange again, and demonstrates how strong that color's association must be.

I'm no expert, but I don't think its coincidence that every Z432 I've seen pics of, with original paint, is that dark burnt orange.

Thanks for the link that was fantastic!
Look forward to your build, even if it is box stock:)
