94 taurus, 6cyl, 3.8L(i think), non police version

Alright. im having terrible problems with this piece of.... ford. hehe. anyways;

I just finished replacing the rear motor mount today (ugh), and my car problems have got even worse. I have always had a problem, but it never got this bad. I went for a drive, and the thing accelerated sloowly. I pulled onto the highway, and the thing wouldnt go past 60km/h. The engine wasnt rev'd high, it was as if i wasnt giving it gas. I floored the pedal, and i slowly accelerated until I got to 80km/h. Then, the check engine light came on to let me know something was wrong! like i didnt already know that... As i kept on driving, the car would randomly slow down and i would have to keep pressing harder on the pedal. what is wrong?? I checked the codes, and it says its the HEGO sensor (heat exhaust gas oxygen sensor). I have had this problem before (not as severe) and it said the same sensors. I understand that the problem could not be the sensors, but something related to it. My father seems to think it could be something with the throttle position sensor. And i was also reading about poor gas pressure from the fuel pump.

So my main question on here is can anyone tell me what is going on?? I am thinking about replacing those hego sensors, but before i did i just wanted to get some input, as these sensors are in a hard place to get at. so yes, any information will be greatful! thankyou

Double check the area you were working in and make sure all the vacuum lines are connected properly. Also, did you intentionally unplug anything while you were working back there? Maybe something didn't get plugged in when you were done.

If this problem began after you changed the mount, chances are pretty good that it is due to something that happened during the mount replacement.

thanks for the reply. i double checked everything and it all looks okay. i didnt disconnect anything when i did the mount, so there shouldnt be a problem there. I had this problem before i changed the mount, but it just seems to have got worse. I did have the battery unplugged, and i think maybe the computer is getting more messed up because of the sensors. I'm not an expert on that stuff so i dont kno.

Is the engine smooth at idle, or is it rough? If it's rough, you need to make sure the vacuum lines are healthy and connected, and check the spark plugs and plug wires. When's the last time the engine received a tune up?

Also, make sure the air intake hose is connected securely.

check your fuel filter, and fuel pump, the filter could be clogged, and as you drive it the gunk in the tank gets sloshed around and sucked in, that could clog up the filter. It also might be sludge buildup in your pump, that would keep the car from getting the amount of gas it needs to run at high rpm's, also that would cause the engine to run hotter because you would be burning way to much air with the gas causing a much hotter cumbustion, the same theory with burning NO2 (nitrus) you are burning much more oxygen causing a hotter burn and with the proper amount of gas a bigger bang! Try changing the filter, it only costs like 5 bucks, and if it is full of junk, have someone check your fuel pump or if you know how to do it yourself, check it. That should hopefully help it. Another thing, with the 3.8 to check, in the morning or when driving it, is your exaust white and smokey, with a real sweat smell to it? This could signify a cracked head gasket which could rob you of power too. Also, if it has high mileage on it put some fuel injecter cleaner in it (i like lucas injecter cleaner) cant hurt it, just help. and it is only like 5 bucks so it isnt expensive.
