Shift kit for an automaticDerk_eliso 08-09-2006, 06:17 AM Unfortunatly I was blessed with an automatic transmission...do shift kits really make that much of a difference...anyone? And...what else can I do to get my car to really get up and go? All I have under the hood so far is a cold air intake. Thanks. my99cavy 08-09-2006, 12:18 PM what engine do you have in the car?? and year is it??? EDIT: about the shift kit, I have never used one on my cars but from what I hear they are great. so yes a shift kit does make a pretty big difference. from what I was looking at it seems there is 2 different stages, Stage 1 - Heavy Duty Firm positive shifts without loss of driver comfort for improved performance in all street vehicles. Recommended for regular passenger vehicles. Stage 2 - Street/Strip Provides very positive shifts for high performance street use or for competitive events. This model is for the enthusiast who wants the hardest, quickest possible shift. so basically it ''Provides crisp shifts on any stock automatic transmissions. Elimination of soft sluggish shifts, shift overlap, and excess wear on clutches and bands due to slippage. Improves transmission life.'' Thanksyeah everyone tends to freak out when you mention headers for a car that only had one  I would probably go with a highflow cat instead of just a straight pipe. and maybe a resonator if you wanted. as far as the ignition goes you can get, -coil packs -ECM -igniton module -wires -plugs Derk_eliso 08-09-2006, 02:05 PM sounds expensive, lol. And...what else can I do to get my car to really get up and go? All I have under the hood so far is a cold air intake. Thanks. Shift kits do a lot more harm than good. All they do is raise the transmission pressure to a dangerous level that will cause a lot more harm than good. Also they will interfer with the computer control of transmission. If you want a soliod shift put a standard transmission in it. MT my99cavy 08-09-2006, 02:12 PM sounds expensive, lol.yeah it could be  ECM-about $280 Ignition module- $630-$910 Plugs- $5-$16 Wires- $40 ^also depends on where you buy them from. prices will vary of course Derk_eliso 08-09-2006, 02:17 PM thanks again PsychoJJ 08-09-2006, 07:26 PM Shift kits do a lot more harm than good. But I am from Miissouri. :grinyes:   So they are going to have to show me. All most shift kit does is set up shiftand line pressure which in the long run will damage your transmission. MT Derk_eliso 08-10-2006, 08:10 PM what have you heard about Trans-go shift kits? I was thinking of getting one of those. Thanks im just curious were you found a greddy catback exhaust system for the 2200 motor....as far a your cat goes you will loose power if you have no form of restriction,s so you will definiatly want to run at least a high flow cat. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
