97 2.2 gas coming out of exhaust!2k2ss 08-08-2006, 02:20 AM Hi,I'm helping my buddy on his car and their is liquid gas dripping out of a hole in the exhaust and it's blowing some out the tail pipe! engine runs fine! no hydro locking and it has not blown the exhaust apart yet. lol. and no he has not been driving it I know how dangerous this could be! I was at a total loss as to how this could be happening with out hydrolocking or blowing the exhaust apart. then i talked to a mechanic friend of mine and he said he thought maybe the fuel pressure regulator was bad and it was building so much pressure that it was forcing gas out through the egr into the exhaust? other than that idea he had no other explantion for it. what do you think? And I don't have the right fuel pressure gauge to check pressure because it does not have a shrader valve.:banghead: millrtime 08-09-2006, 04:08 PM u sure its gas? i was workin on a 78 mercedes tha was running EXTREMELY rich spit some gas along w/ tons of smoke out the exaust but thats all i can think of. it would be a very rare case if the fuel regulator was building up pressure and there happened to be a hole in the exaust right where the regulator was. im not saying it coulnt happen....just sounds like a very low probability to me. good luck figuring that one out. Cold_Silence 08-12-2006, 02:03 PM Yeah check if its running too rich, and ensure its gas, it could just be moisture etc. indyextremecustoms 08-12-2006, 02:27 PM my ecotec exhells leftovers as well so do all cars... it is from running low grade fuel and all of it not being spent...so the leftovers have to go some where 2k2ss 08-14-2006, 12:12 AM yes it is gas! trust me!! you can smell it from 10 feet away. and i'm not talking about a few drops like moisture does i'm talking about pouring out like if you left it running for 5 minutes the puddle would be as big as the car!!! boarder_punk 08-14-2006, 12:22 AM IF it really is gas, it must have fried the cat. I still think it must be just water from the cat doing its job. Or it could be a misfire, or injectors stuck open, and there might be a shrader valve down a foot or so on the fuel line, I can't remember for sure. Someone who knows what they are doing with a good scanner like a GM Tech 2 should have no trouble figuring this out. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
