97 Cavalier 14,700 miles- Suggested Maintenance?97BlueCavalier 08-04-2006, 10:07 PM Hi, As I've said in previous posts, I got a 1997 cavalier coupe 2.2l with only 13,700 miles from my grandparents in 10/05. The car now has 14,700 and has since had an oil change, new brake line, and a muffler, as well as a new sound system(not that it matters). It's due for an oil change this month (I usually do it myself but I'm too busy), so I called up the dealership to set up an appt. The dealership is trying to talk me into a $400 "do everything" service with a tranny flush, coolant flush, etc. The car has never had any of this done before, but it's running perfectly fine without any problems. With such low mileage, the car obviously sat for long periods of time. I've been using it daily since June and it runs great. I'm just looking for an unbiased opinion on what I should get done. I'm only 16, and this is my 1st car, and I would like it to run for many more years to come... Also, sometimes (rarely) during highway driving, my low coolant light goes on then off for about 15 seconds. I know that the resevoir is full, so any idea what that could be? Sorry for the long post, but thanks for any advice in advance. jakegday 08-04-2006, 11:01 PM well it does only have 14000 miles on it, so i wouldnt hesitate to put $400 into it, which it probably does need if its 10 years old, and has hardly ever been driven, maybe try to get that same tune up at a different shop for cheaper.... Classicrocjunkie 08-05-2006, 01:37 AM Jesus.... switch her over to mobil 1, and boost that sonfa! Just an FYI... it prolly would be best to get that tranny flush, coolant flush done since its been sitting for sometime and over time parts break down just for being old. But on normal wear and usage is 30K mile intervals where you shold get your tranny flushed and coolant. Or atleast thats what I go by. I'd rather be safe than sorry. You'll have many years on that girl. Here i thought i was special with my 99 only have 59,200K miles. Young Chuck D 08-05-2006, 07:09 AM those flushes really cost huh? you can get them or not... but you have an almost new car though and it'll last a long time either way. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
