2005 Passat Wagon 1.8t. Since the first month I had it, the engine light will come on for a couple of days at a time, then go off for a couple weeks. Of course, since no VW dealer will take walk-in service around here :banghead:, by the time I get an appointment, the light is not on. Tried to read the code with two different scanners, and there isn't one being set, apparently. Dealer said they did not see one either. The only real service ever done to attempt to fix this was replacing the cam sensor. I was told this was something known to go wrong on these, that would throw a light with no code. Problem came back soon after, though.

Until recently, this has just been an annoyance more than anything. On a new car especially. Lately, though, the engine will randomly not start. Cranks, but won't turn over. Shut it off, wait a few seconds, try again, starts right up. Yesterday when it did this, the light toggled from on to off as well. Haven't noticed that being the case before, but now we are watching for it. The light is currently off. Also, the gas mileage has been $h!t. We got around 250 miles minimum out of a tank when new, and now we get like 200.

Stupid car is less than a year old!!!! I'm still under warranty obviously, but I was curious if anybody had any ideas before I take it in....again, just so I can tell if the dealer is BSing me. My only consolation is the warranty, so it hasn't cost me anything, other than the extra consumtption of super-expensive gas, and the hassle of taking the car in. We had a 2003 that was never in the shop for the whole lease, which is why we leased this one afterwards. But after this hassle, and talking to other VW owners, I think we were just lucky with the '03, I doubt I'll ever drive another VW...

Unknown problem. However, if you want to know if the dealer Bsings to you, then just walk up to him or her, look straight in the eye and say: "Are you Bsinging me, $%^&*?

Also, I am getting 400mi on the tank, the most I got was 500mi (99 1.8T).

My gas stat was actually misleading. 250 was with my aggressive driving.:evillol: My wife would get over 300 (mostly slow commuting). Which makes the difference even worse, actually, since she is the one now getting 200.
