2.2 timing issuesmichfanman 08-02-2006, 12:56 PM Working on replacing timing chain because tensioner blew. Rockers are loose for exhaust valves. Does this mean my valves need to be replaced? Also does anyone know if this is an interference type motor? 96 Cavalier 2.2 Cavalier2000 08-02-2006, 01:03 PM when i blew my tensiorner I messed up the entire head (casue I tried to keep it running when it was messed up) michfanman 08-02-2006, 02:01 PM Had a ticking noise when at idle or low speeds, ran it like that awhile then went dead coming off the highway. My wifes car! Had the head replaced maybe 10 K prior to this happening. This vehicle has been a real pain. Now opened up the head looks beautiful, know that doesnt mean much, but the intake rockers are real nice and tight but two of the exhaust rockers are very sloppy, buddy tried tightening them and snapped the stud. So now beleive it may be some bent valves, hence the question of this being an interference type motor. Hoping for valves and not head. Any more thoughts would be greatly appreciated.... michfanman 08-06-2006, 06:46 PM Well I got lucky in the fact that just bent my exhaust valves. Had to replace them and the timing chain set and the tensioner because old one was chewed up. Next time I hear a little tick in the motor I will shut er down. jakegday 08-06-2006, 07:06 PM Also does anyone know if this is an interference type motor? 96 Cavalier 2.2 yes it is, good luck :) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
