asc light on !!! help please!!!

soon after water pump was changed ASC light came on My mechanic checked for the codes something like this came out ( LWS open circuit to CAN 91) any body knows what the f*** that means???

steering nagel sensor open circut to can (controller area network) fc 91 it means your steering angle sensor is nolonger communicating on the can network clear the fault and see if it comes back if so have them check coninuity throught steerign angle sensor should be about 60ohm s and good connections to all other control units.

I also had my water pump replaced and shortly afterwards the ASC lamp came on. I was checking under hood and there is a steel cable that goes through a bracket attached to the manifold. I noticed the cable looked loose and it was. I returned to BMW where the water pump was replace; $1770.00, and they said the cable was broken and will order and replace. BMW said this is the reason my ASC was lit. They will also reset light.

The manifold is removed to replace water pump on my 1997 540iRemove the manifold? $1770.00 for a water pump? Something else must have been wrong, or you got the salami. I do those all day long for $800.00. The cable is $35.00 by the way. Replacing that is the least they could do.

I supplied the water pump. BMW replaced thermostat, deflec. roller, idler, cover. Labor 407.00 They also replaced hose, hose clamp, 2 intake manifold gaskets, rbr mounting, and coolant temp sen. Labor 978.00. All that plus a 96.45 oil change make up the 1770.00
My point is that the cable is attached to a bracket and bracket is on housing that has MAF sensor and air filter. Needs to be moved out of the way.
