89 SLE Burb Blower Motor R&R Q(s)eippermx 07-29-2006, 09:06 PM I just bought an 89 SLE 'Burb with a rear A/C system. My problem is that when I turn on the rear A/C, the blower motor makes a racket that I suspect is the fan wheel hitting the fan cage. My question is, "Can I remove and replace the unit with out having to disconnect any A/C lines?" If I can replace the blower motor with out having to go through the hassle of evacating the system, can you provide me a clue on how to R&R the unit? The DYI manual I have doesn't have the information in it to help me with this problem. sub006 07-29-2006, 10:23 PM I R&R'd my FRONT a/c blower motor/fan on the firewall of my '90. There was no interface with the freon plumbing, so I suspect the same would be true in the rear. It's easy to remove the big rear a/c cover from the ceiling. Then you'll be able to see how much of a challenge your job will be. Also confirm the problem is what you think it is. BTW, once you know what parts you want to replace, check the aftermarket and the junkyard. By now GM dealer prices will be out of sight for these parts! sub006 07-29-2006, 10:24 PM I R&R'd my FRONT a/c blower motor/fan on the firewall of my '90. In the 16 years I've owned mine, the rear a/c makes a loud, flatulent grinding noise once or twice a month, as if something needs lubrication badly. I've learned to just let it run, because the racket builds to a crescendo and then silences itself in perhaps 15 seconds or less. If it ever kept going, I'd sure tear into it looking for the problem, but after 400,000 miles I think it's just a quirk of the beast. It's easy to remove the big rear a/c cover from the ceiling.
