I just need to know what is the minimum needed for the 3cyl to run. I am not gonna change the ecm. I can change a couple of the plugs but am not gonna change the wiring harness. A lot of the plugs looked the same but there were a few extras on the 3cyl, I have not put the engine in yet but I want a head start on wiring problems.

Good luck with that :screwy:
Only way to run a 3cyl with a 1.6 ECU, is to run carbs. Not only that, the tracker ECU has the wrong ignition map, wrong fuel maps, wrong mixture control.... You're gonna need to run a carb'd motor with an MSD ignition. There's a reason that you change the ECU and harness when you do a motor swap. It's not just for fun. The fuel injectors have different resistance also. You'll probably blow up the ECU just from turning it on.

a lot of JDM (low mile replacement motor from japan) come with carbs. if you don't want to rewire the vehicle find one of those intakes and swap it over and run a carb. are you sure a 3 cyl will have enough power to move that thing, it weighs a lot more than a metro and has a lot bigger tires. it wasn't exactly speedy with the stock 4 cyl

Ok, so maybe I should change the ECU and wiring harness... Do I need to change the whole wiring harness or is there one just for the engine compartment? Could I use the old wiring harness and just replace plugs everywhere?? What about the old coil and main relays and other modules and wat-not in the engine compartment??? As far as the other persons comment about power, I have no clue if the 3cyl can do it, it is a 4x4 tracker, I figure I can put smaller rims to help a bit and never allow more than 2 ppl.

ok well I looked it up and it wieghs around 2400 pounds which is less than I thought.

It might function around town. Stock with the 85/96 torque it was among the slowest vehicles on the road. the 3 cyl would make it very slow with what is it 55/49. Someone can explain that running a car at full throttle doesnt save gas.... actually this is like the worst idea Ive heard. You can be the first one to do it though it might be cool.

I used to drive around a 4000 pound 60 hp 68 vw bus. and that was not safe lol but I did it and I still see people do it.

hahaha, thanks.... I will be the first to get it done! I know that full throttle will not save gas, I actually plan to add an electric motor at some point. I will add pics after I drop the motor in.

Not only will it get 20mpg tops, but it will also pre-maturely destroy the engine. As in it'll last about 25,000 miles and be completely shot. Running a car at WOT is very bad for it. You're very likely to throw a rod, or just kill the piston rings. If you're gonna do a motor swap, toss a swift GT engine in it. It'll last way longer, and get a ton more power. Besides, with either a G10 or G13 engine, you'll have to modify the engine block slightly just to get the trans to bolt up to the block. It's actually a very popular swap in the tracker/samurai community because it's such a durable engine, and has tons of power. Tossing a 1.0 in a tracker would be like tossing a cavalier motor in a suburban.

I personally only paid $100 for my new GT motor. But that was a steal of a deal :). You can usually pick em up with an ECU at the junkers for $350. Send "Droppedtracker" a PM on teamswift.net. He's parting out a swift right now. You can buy the whole car for $350, strip it, and sell the rest of the parts on ebay for more than that(body kit, rear disc setup, interior, etc..).
