The car has 112K miles on it, from a personal seller, looks good, but I've read about Passats, and want to know your opinons! We like the it for the looks and features, but we want reliability and inexpensive repairs over looks and features.

Parts for this car are often more expensive than Porsche and even a few parts for Lamborghini. The car also requires a lot of upkeep, parts for somereason have short life spans by design. I'm not a mechanic, but I have spent enough on ours to never buy another one again. All I can say, is that when it does drive right, it is a very fun car to have.

Thanks for your input. I have heard the very same from others. Looks like we may be staying away from the Passat.

If you want to buy passat, get it with standard transmission. Also, vw has problems, and a lot, but if you change all controll arms after 75k mi, change t-belt with "stuff," and keep it dry, + premium gas--that car is fun to drive, it will work, and it's economical too. BMW, mercedes have elecronical problems too. And for those who own passats--it's a good possibility that you will sell it, so please don't put down passats.

They are low end luxury car--for the price they go for--I think it's pretty good vehicle--AND IT'S EUROPEAN.

Theyre very nice.. but agreed.. stuff can be pretty expensive for them. Just a cat-back exhaust for my 97 VR6 is $600.

I love my Passat, but I thought it was funny to see that parts for a Porsche 944 were considerably cheaper.

I'm also looking into a Passat... Basically I need something as a primary driver (since my Jeep Wrangler gets 12 mpg). I like the 1.8T engine because it has plenty of potential for power and great gas mileage at the same time. I guess I want to know whether I'll be driving my Jeep anyways while the Passat is in the shop getting costly repairs every month... Any and all input is appreciated! Thanks
