New (to me) Malibu?adgjqetuo 07-28-2006, 08:02 AM Hey guys, I'm new here. I'm looking into buying a 1999 Malibu LS (V6) with 94,000 miles. They're asking $3400, (but I talked them down to $3100) for it with a warantee. (100% Labor, 100% parts drivetrain for 30 days) I took it for a test drive, and came up with the following problems: - Rear Window doesn't work - Climate control only speeds 3,4,and 5 work (1 and 2 act like it's in the "off" position) - Check Engine light (dealer said the codes brought up it was an O2 sensor) All of which the dealer said they would fix no problem. I took it for a test drive for about an hour (with speeds rangeing from 25-75mph) and everything sounded fine in the engine. What else should I look for if I decide to consider this car? (Which i'm really close to doing) Thanks Mike adgjqetuo 07-29-2006, 07:23 AM No one knows anything I should specifically look for when deciding to buy this car or not?? wymi 07-29-2006, 11:24 AM No one knows anything I should specifically look for when deciding to buy this car or not?? I will just say, considering all the things that have gone wrong on my 01 Malibu since I got it new, I will not recommend a used Malibu to anyone. Good Luck. adgjqetuo 07-30-2006, 10:39 AM Yeah, so funny story. We (my gf and I) were testing the malibu, and it seemed to run fine and everything. (weve been testing it for a few days now). We take it home on one last test run, and go inside quickly, and when we come out... it wouldn't start!!:banghead: It would start, and then immeditly stall out, every single time. We called the dealer up, and they gave us the whole "it'll have to just sit there until monday!" I said I don't think so, either you tow it right now, or I will and i'll stick you with the bill. Soon enough a tow truck came, and we had to ride with the driver to get back to my truck I left at the dealership. So now were out looking again. We came accross a 1998 Malibu with only 74,000 miles, for $3400. That one seemed 10 times less problematic (and cleaner) then the 99. Hopefully it was a blessing in disguise. However if this one ends up like the 99, I think were going to say "screw it" to all other Malibus. So we'll see what happens. PTG1212 07-30-2006, 08:58 PM Mailbu's are a risky investment. If you've skimmed through the forum you've seen all the issues. I bought a used 2001 from a family member because it had very low miles (17k). I've replaced the blower motor resistor. I need to do the A/C control panel fix. It's a bit deceiving, because when they are running, they run well. They are just prone to lots of little problems and a couple major ones. Good luck with whatever you decide. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
