Does anyone else or has anyone else ever owned a 95 pontiac sunfire or a car with a similar tranny (3 speed, electronic torque converter). Well my car was shaking every so often when i bought it and got worse over time. I recently changed the fluid and found more than normal amount of metal powder in the tranny pan. I cleaned everything good, new gasket new filter and put it back together. I added high mileage tranny fluid with lucas stabilizer in it. No about a week later it is much worse. It seems like it cant shift gears very well. It jerks pretty bad when i speed up, ESP if i mash the pedal. Im gonna unplug my solenoid and drive to get my hair cut and see if it fixes it. Does anyone know if there is a tranny from another car i can swap with that or what the problem could be and what would the best option be for my car?

I was told by a tranny shop guy that it needed rebuilt because the valves were leaking and the torque converter didnt get enough pressure to engauge. Ive seen people on here saying that car kinda does what mine does but stalls and its the TCC solenoid.

/me is gonna cry

1.Sell to unsuspecting victim
2. Tranny rebuild (half the price i payed for the car)
3. Junk yard tranny swap (probably 700-1000 bucks)
4. Junk the car (bad option cause i still owe 1800 on it and cant get a new one without going severely into debt)

A junkyard tranny is never a good idea. They will come with only a 30 day warrantee, and you have no idea how the person who owned the car drove it. You could pay 800 dollars for a tranny that has 2 or 3 months of life left before it too needs a rebuild.

Sorry if I sound jaded about junkyards but my friend got a rear end from a junkyard with no warrantee, and 2 weeks latter, it too went bad. Also junkyards do not give cash back, just exchanges. So while they may take the tranny back, you are stuck getting another questionable product from a questionable retailer.

The only way I would say to get a tranny/engine from a junkyard is if you are going to rebuild it. Since you are thinking about rebuilding the tranny you already have, this option does not make sense.

If I were you, I would have it rebuilt. Considering you still owe money on the car selling it is not really an option since whoever does buy it, will probably only buy it for a grand, if your lucky, but more like a few hundred in reality.

it doesnt sound like the tcc to me. i would suggest getting it rebuilt. My transmission went, and it couldnt shift into 2nd or 3rd. I foned around and the junk yard wanted 100+ for it. Then my dads friend was selling his because he blew the engine. Bought it off him for 200$ got new tires, spare parts, and tranny =) its been great for a year now
