So, this is my annual Metro summer update.

My mpg is averaging around 50, not bad,

146,951 miles, getting up there.

No A/C by the way, but I can handle it.

burns a quart of oil off about every month and a half, is that normal? I drive about 400 miles a week to work. Still putting in the 5w-30 castrol high mileage.

OH YES, installed some new wheel covers, the old ones I had on there were basically horse crap and falling apart with holes. got the new ones for 15.00 at Kmart. They look pretty slick.

Sad news, well, the huge crack in my windshield was finally spotted by a state trooper in a SKY BLUE mustang. He must have had really good eyes.

So I'm getting the new windshield put in Thursday morning by Safe Lite auto glass. They are driving out here to Kent Island from Dover, Delaware and will put it in for $200 dollars. Thought that was a good deal, $50 bucks cheaper than the local guy here.

Might need some new tires soon, the tread on the front tires is better than the back tires. Did the penny trick with Lincoln's head on the back set and there is hardly any tread left.

Also, for some reason, when I switch on my full brightness headlamps by turning the switch, the headlights shut off all together. Broken relay in the switch?

Thanks for reading and have a cool and safe summer.

Hi Mr Hand,

Well I had the same problem with the headlights on my '96 and, as I learned here on this excellent forum, it was caused by overheated and burned connections on the headlight harness plug at the fuse block. This plug is located just above your left big toe when driving the car. It is the plug with the green wires coming from it. Try pulling the plug from the fuse block, cleaning the connections and re-connecting it. It worked for me - temporarily.

Now, the problem is starting to re-appear and I am wondering if there are any ideas for a longer-term solution....

Well, i don't have the full brightness headlamp problem anymore. I pulled out that harness, then plugged it back in again. Now the problem seems to have been corrected by that. I'll wait and see if it happens again, thanks for the advice.
