DIY rebuild :) There's a video (about four discs long) all about rotary parts, assembly, etc. on drifting.com

J-Spec engines (turbo) generally go for $1300 (US) maybe.. but I've seen them as low as $900 (CAN).

N/A engines probably cost just over half of what the turbo engines cost. Browse around.. there are some good specialty shops out there. If you're looking for even just a stock rebuild, it won't really cost that much.

fb are 1st gen rx7 81-85 (sa were original 1st gens were the SA 79/80)
fc are 2nd gen rx7 86-91
fd aer 3rd gens 93-95 (lasted until 02 in japan though)

R1 is the "race ready" package for the 93, has bigger oil coolers and some other crap. if you have that model consider yourself lucky

replacing the engine on a 93, are you just going to find another engine or rebuild the one in there or buy a remanufactured engine (i suggest a rebuild if the engine isnt in terrible shape)

in my opinion, I would just do up the 13BREW, it's a good engine, and has awesome potential. The 13BRE is pretty similar so the only other one I could think of is a 20B, but thas big coin.

The terms "FB", "FC", and "FD" come from the VIN-codes of the various vintages of RX-7. The VIN-code for the 1st-generation RX-7 was "FB3S", the code for the 2nd-gen. was "FC3S", and the 3rd-gen. was "FD3S". The R1 was special model/package for the 1993 year (the R2 was for '94-'95); the R1's came with dual oil-coolers, front and rear spoilers, a front strut-bar (and perhaps some other items that I cannot recall).

they are the chassis codes which are reflected in the VIN number. (truth)
