1992 Buick LeSabre won't startFeliceDS 07-20-2006, 02:45 PM My 92 Le Sabre won't start. It cut off on me in the middle of driving. All of the electrical came on and then went off and left me without power anything or even hazard lights. I towed it to Sears and they thought that it was the alternator but they couldn't even test the alternator because the battery was completely dead (or so they thought). Later that day they were fiddling around with the battery and found a loose wire, they tightened it up and lo and behold the car started. I just had to pay for the diagnostic and I drove away thinking I got off very light. I drove it for 2 days with no problems then went out to my car one day and it wouldn't start. So much for a quick and inexpensive fix. What could be the problem? Is it electrical, a fuse, poor ground connection? Help!! maxwedge 07-20-2006, 03:55 PM Basic diagnostics, check battery for charge, check the cables to the battery and ground. HotZ28 07-20-2006, 05:21 PM Max is absolutely right, check the cables, not only for tightness, but also for corrosion. It does not make good sense to tighten a corroded battery cable, you need to disconnect them and clean with a brass brush and 50/50 soda-water mix. :grinyes: If you have the dual positive cables, be sure to pull them apart and clean both sections. If the corrosion is down into the wires, replace the whole wire & terminal assembly! Also, be sure the alternator and battery pass the standard “free” test, provided by AutoZone or Advanced. They do not charge a “diagnostic” fee! (Unlike Sears):screwy::crying: Ncgreasemonkey 09-09-2006, 09:16 PM Yeah, definately check those terminals good. My buick had the same problem, ended up being one of the bolts on those god forsaken side post batteries had corroded to death, and actually became loose. Bought a new battery (the other's threaded terminal was gone) and a couple of those bolts from advance. (Note the positive bolt is about twice as long as the negative.) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
