Got a small block olds motor that has casting number 395558 2 on it. The heads are not the stock heads for the motor so I don't know the numbers for those (if it even helps). Anything else you guys need to tell me the details for this block? If so, where can the numbers be found?

I looked online and that number came up for '68-'72 and then a seperate section for '73-'75. So I'm not sure what one it is.

Thanks in advance!

Are thier any other #'s or letters on the block??
Is the engine ID label still on the (oil) filler tube ??

The #'s correspond to a 68-71-ish OLDS 350 with the #8 Heads or # 5 heads and no EGR.
But you dont hav the original heads for that block.... so its hard to say exactly.

It could also possibly be a 350 rocket.
The 350rockets are the desired motor for gear heads.
I hav a few 350 rockets lying around, but all are from 65-69. Couple 425rockets and 1 330Rcket from 65'-66 :)

Hope this helped out ItsA88 !!

Thanks. Yeah thats the same type of info I found online. I was just wondering if anyone could narrow down to an exact year. Thanks for the info though!

Also, does anyone know any good sites to get aftermarket (performance) parts for a small block olds 350 in that year range? I obviously know about summit and jegs already. Thanks again in advance.

If you had the original heads, or Id tag on the dip stick, then you would be able to narrow it do to a specific year/model.

Thier are tons of places these day to get parts, heres a couple.
jc whitney (http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/StoreCatalogDisplay/c-10101/s-10101/TID-8014523)

Oldsmobile_Parts (http://www.innerauto.com/Oldsmobile_Parts/Oldsmobile_Engine_Parts/)

heres a link to other Olds links.

Here are the rest of the numbers I could find:

Back of block by distributor hole - 8 & 137
Driver side head: 403 859
3 to the right of #1exhaust
6 left of #1exhaust
Passenger side head: only differant number is a 2 where the 3 is on the driver head.

Also, is there any other GM chassis that a SBO 350 will bolt right up to such as a buick regal or GN?

Thanks.

I'll see what I find on those numbres.

I am sure the sbo 350 would fit in the buick or a grand national.
Though they both hav V6s, I still think it'll fit.

A few modifications might hav to be done to get it run/drivable.

ok , it has to be between 68-71.
Olds didnt list any makes with a 350 till then, Just the 330, and the 425 and a V6 the 250 uptill 67'.

They did use a 400 , 68-71 but it too would hav the ID on the tag by the oil fill tube.
Check the block for letters T-N-B-QV-P etc.

Thanks in advance! everything you want to know and more, much of it verified by the guru of olds, Joe Mondello, can be found by simply going to ask,com and asking jeeves to tell you about swapping an olds motor. a plethora of info will stream out at you to the point of overload. enjoy
