97 JGC air conditioning minimal coolingsteverl 07-16-2006, 03:06 PM I bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee ('97) V8. The blower fan blows hard but only puts out minimal cold air. I checked the a/c pressure and it seems to be full. The air compressor contunually disengages, engaging for only about three or four seconds and then disengaging. What could be the problem? Saudade 07-16-2006, 06:10 PM Could be a problem with the blend door. How did you check the pressure? Also, this is the Cherokee (XJ) forum and not the GC. There is one for the GC. You might consider moving this there as those subscribers are likely more familiar with the GC's systems. fredjacksonsan 07-16-2006, 07:05 PM Moved. *Nina* 07-16-2006, 08:20 PM it sounds like there isnt enoff freon in the system as they will cycle on and off when low but if its full i would check as stated above the blend door shep78 07-18-2006, 09:38 AM My Grand Cherokee shoots cold air to the floor and the control panel gave me the code of 55 which the discription is door range travel was too small and the problem area is Blend Air Door Actuator Drive Circuit. Where is that and how do I fix it. steverl 07-18-2006, 06:21 PM I guess I should specify. Plenty of air blows out all of the vents but it is only luke cool air. Not very cold at all. The air compressor engages for about three seconds and then shuts off for about five seconds. The compressor does this over and over again. I hooked on of those Walmart gadgets up with a can of coolant attached. the gauge moves up and down staying pretty much in the green stating that the system is full and no coolant is injected into the system. Any more ideas? 1BADGTO 07-19-2006, 11:42 AM Get rid of the Wal-mart crap and get a regular fill hose and one can of R-134A. Get a gallon bucket of very hot tap water and as your filling the system submerge the can in the bucket to keep it from freezing. Also, keep it upright to allow vapor to enter your system. Typically, your low pressure side won't increase unless you have overcharged. With your compressor cycling like that and blowing cool air you will probably get by with a single can. I've done this for years and getting ready to do it again tonight. Chad steverl 07-19-2006, 06:26 PM This might be a dumb question but what does a filler hose look like? I can do basic mechanical work but I'm no specialist working on A/C systems. 1BADGTO 07-20-2006, 05:16 PM The fill hose typically is around 12 inches long and has a connector on one end for the low pressure fitting near the passenger hood hinge (that where mine is on the 95). The other end has the fitting for the 134A can with the needle for punching the hole. Just follow the above instructions and you should be fine. I did last night, only my system was so low it wouldnt even cycle the compressor until I had one full can in it. 2 cans later it was blowing cold again. I just hope it didn't leak out today. It's 109F outside and forcasted 110 tomorrow. Good luck with yours! Chad steverl 07-20-2006, 06:14 PM I used a fill hose and tried it using the instructions. Still no luck. The compressor continues to cycle on and off when the a/c is on and it would't take any of the 134A. Still no luck. Blows out a lot of air but only minimally cool. Not warm but not cold. Thanks for your help, though. Any more ideas would be great. dog_jerry 07-21-2006, 05:34 PM It seams there isn't enough freon in the system, or electronic does'nt work properly. nixilu 07-26-2006, 04:33 AM How can you tell if the compressor is being engaged? What should I check if the compressor does not engage? The a/c in my jeep blows out the same temperature as when the a/c button isn't pushed. The a/c was working just fine. Then I had some other problems (turned out to be the water pump) so I didn't drive my jeep for about 2 weeks. I finally got the water pump fixed and a new drive belt put in. When I first started my jeep after not being run for 2 weeks, the a/c is no longer working. How can I find out where the problem lies? nixilu 07-28-2006, 05:52 AM Anyone have any ideas? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
