Bluebird transmission noise?

Just test drove a 1999 Bluebird Nissan VVL SR20 (VE) sedan. At low torque (when just moving off) a noise (related to gear speed possibly) is heard then disapears once the car is underway. Not a CV problem I don't think as that would have lower revolutions and there is no noise when turning hard left or right. I also wonder about a universal joint?

Hard to describe noise, it is brief and as I say, it seems to have similar revs as gearing. Also seems to be in centre front of car. Being brief it is hard to pin down. Are these cars prone to any such behaviour? Any clues?

Check that all the cables behind the stereo are taped down, theres alot of wiring back there and it rattles if you dont tape it to the body, that noise used to happen to me before i taped everything loose in the car to the body.
