Both have air. Similar miles, similar costs.

I have a 95 without air, but I can hook up my scan gauge. I really would like to find a 95 or newer, 5 spd, 3cyl, with AC.

If you had to choose which would you buy?

are you kidding?

The auto and the air will make the think undrivable to me. way worse gas mileage try like 15 mpg less.

The auto trans though, is very reliable for this car.

when youve only got 55 hp an air conditioner makes a big difference. Even when its not on.

If I had one with an air conditioner Id be figuring out how to remove it. I wish I had one and wed both be set.

ok next man check this out. you like your geo because it gets good gas mileage right? I mean what other redeeming qualities does the thing have really lol.

ok but gas mileage means MONEY. MONEY. YOU DRIVE YOUR GEO TO SAVE MONEY!

Dont spend $800 to put an air conditioner in your car. And much more to install it mind you. If you were going to do that, just get that pimpin cadillac el dorado. You dont save enough in gas to pay for an air conditioner. roll down the window. When the thing finally dies and you junk it, get a car with an air conditioner next time.

I am in my car for over 600 miles per week. If it was to break I would fix it as I have done with it to this point. If at times when it is 85+ degrees and 100% humidity it would be nice to have air during the 1.5 hour commute. You live in Cali and have 3 cars. I have less than $500 in my Geo right now. There is not a Geo in the auto trader within 200 miles of here, and the last 2 on ebay with air and a 5spd within 200 miles of here went for well over $1200 bucks even with 100k+ and other issues. My Geo get 45+ mpg on my commute and if on the hottest days it gets 35 I think I'll live and be much cooler. At least with mine I know what I am in for.

As the link in your sig tells me you don't even drive yours. Mine I spend about 18 hours a week in.

I dont even drive my metro right now. it drives me crazy.
Right at the moment, the hood needs to be replaced.
Im going to fix it all up and maybe repaint it even. the gas mileage is so great and it runs well I cant get rid of it.
But, the things so uncomfortable i just cant stand it right now. I only drive my mazda.

I see your Mazda has working air and you find that more comfortable.

Also, why do your post come across as you talking down to me or your opinion being gospel?

Hey guy, don't get too worked up. This is a place for opinions. If you don't like his opinion, ignore it. If you don't like mine, ignore it too. I'm sure that you will do what you want to, and that's the whole point isn't it?

The auto would make it undesirable for me. As for the air that would be a plus. I am willing to pay the gas mileage penalty in order to use it during the hottest part of the summer; around here it can be 100+ . I average 45 mpg in combined city/hwy driving (about 40/60) with an air condtioned 5 speed. When I use the air I do see a mileage drop but I have never needed to use the air for an entire tank of fuel so I can't say exactly how much the air "costs".

This is very subjective and to the original poster - it is very much your call based on what your prioritiies are. I personally would buy the newest car with the lowest mileage possible and also see if the previous owners maintained good records to verify routine maintenance/service. The older the car the more time you are likely to spend fixing it than driving it. And as for the auto/ac pros and cons again it is down to a tradeoff of power and fuel economy vs the convinience of having those.

The a/c DIY kit is of course a possibility but in addition to buying the kit you will need to budget for either someone to install it or get the tools and DIY the job. You will need a vacuum pump, manifold gauge set, thermometer and a few other things. Make sure the compressor is correctly filled with PAG oil and the system correctly evacuated before charging. If you have an air compressor at home you can buy a cheap vaccum pump from harbour freight (about $10 I believe) but your compressor will have to be able to support about 4.5CFM @ 90PSI (directly from the compressor - not just using the tank as this has to be done for several minutes). Good vacuum pumps from the well known manufacturers like Robinair are too expensive for home purchase but used ones can be found on ebay. The evaucation requirements can be found online in the EPA section 609 manual - I have it on my computer but cannot recall offhand what the requirements are. Maybe the kit comes with all the figures.

Good luck

ya that is really far out. You are actually asking peoples opinions and youre going to freak out about people writing them out.

Im not trying to talk down to you thats in your head.

Remember this, its all an equation. I drive for a living so I have a more black and white view. Its dollars, point a to point b.

Yes, a honda civic with air, mazda protege toyota tercel etc nissan sentra... that might be what you really want in life. If you can get a steal on it. Its all about the steal as well. Geo metros werent made with air for a reason. they dont have power steering either.35 mpg... thats what youll get in my protege. Maybe youll come out of the closet and embrace your carness LOL.

now about me, I threw up that cardomain after I had 3 cars. Its actually sort of like a maintenance log.

Now, I like my Geo. I never even planned to have three cars mind you I usually have two cars. Actually one car and an RV, thats my scene. I tow the Geo with my camper van when I move or travel.

Ive had the Geo for 3 years. Im not getting rid of it, Im going to pay to fix it up even ( not a lot) and Im going to ghetto paint the hood. I do plan to drive it to death though that was the plan orignally. Im not going to hand it over to my children. In reality I wanted a suzuki swift I know that after 3 years with the thing. Im going to frankenstein the chairs too with something from the junk yard.
