98 Cherokee Sport-Problem with Gaugesstouty24 07-11-2006, 03:02 PM I have a 98 Cherokee Sport and my gauges keep going out on me. My speedometer and tachometer will suddenly just drop to zero and my airbag light will come on... then after I proceed to hit my dash the gauges will work again. Anyone heard of this problem before? Any ideas?? thanks:banghead: fredjacksonsan 07-11-2006, 03:10 PM It's a frequent occurrence with 98-99's. Do a search in this forum and you'll find many posts. IIRC, the solution is to either replace the dash unit, or to make sure the electrical connections are tight from the wiring harness to the dash. stouty24 07-11-2006, 03:45 PM thanks for the info... i took apart my dash last weekend and checked the connectors and everything seemed to be tight.. after reading some of the other posts I worry that this problem could be costly... my transmission is also slipping when i'm on the highway, and my ac leaks so bad it won't even hold the freon for longer than 48 hours... maybe it's time to think about getting rid of this. :smokin: fredjacksonsan 07-11-2006, 03:50 PM The electrical stuff can be hard to track down, and I'm not the best one here to help you with it. Beyond checking the connections for corrosion or replacing the gauges, I don't know. Trans slipping, I'd try a fluid change. Make sure you're using the right stuff, there is a bit of information here and on the web that if you're not using the correct fluid for your Jeep/Chrysler trans, you'll have slippage when it's in lockup. Check your owner's manual for the correct fluid. The AC leaking....hopefully it's just a hose. You might want to clean the AC components, then refill the system and include some flourescent dye. Then once it leaks out you'll have an indication of where the leak is (and how much it will cost to fix it) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
