1988 Cherokee PioneerRaceghost 07-11-2006, 11:56 AM Well, she kicked the bucket yesterday with a fatal oil leak. I think the rear main seal went out. Trying to get her into the ER to get some oil transfusions done, maybe bring her back to life. I am using this jeep as a rain/fun vehicle when i can't ride my bike. Since I have to do some engine work and etc. What should I do to the motor? I intend to put a 4 inch lift under her, with 31 x 11.50 16's. I want some bolt on power, and maybe some internal power depending on how hard it is to do. Does anyone have any suggestions? Does anyone know of a good shop to do the engine work in SOCAL (Huntington Beach Area)? fredjacksonsan 07-11-2006, 12:07 PM The 4.0 is pretty sturdy, you can get more power out, but it's just a matter of how much you want to spend. Intake, exhaust, bored out, cammed. The right set of gears can work wonders for the apparent power of the vehicle. Lastly, if you're going to be putting that size of tire on it, you'll likely want to upgrade your axles. The stock axle probably won't hold up for too long. Raceghost 07-11-2006, 12:22 PM What recommendations do you have on the axle's? fredjacksonsan 07-11-2006, 12:30 PM For the axles, I'd check here and in the Wrangler forum for details. All I know is that most guys upgrade to a Dana 44 when mounting larger tires, but not the specifics of how. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
