01 Sunfire starting problemstanzz 07-10-2006, 12:09 PM Well, my car usually starts fine, however every so often it will not start. I turn the key and all I hear is a clicking noise. The starter does not turn. The starter is brand new, but that's all I know. Any help? Cavalier2000 07-10-2006, 03:47 PM Check out the wires and make sure they are all good jakegday 07-10-2006, 05:19 PM your starter will make a clicking noise when it tries to crank if your battery is very low, try jumpstarting it ponchonutty 07-10-2006, 05:33 PM Yep, also check the cables themselves because they can rot inside the insolation. You could also have problems with the ignition switch too. There was a recall on them I think??? jakegday 07-10-2006, 09:28 PM the ignition recall thing (which i still havnet gotten taken care of) has to do with wires that will melt and start on fire if you try cranking it for too long, like when you go to start it, and it cranks and cranks and cranks, but doesnt turn over, it will supposedely start on fire Cavalier2000 07-11-2006, 07:54 AM and blow your airbag ponchonutty 07-11-2006, 08:11 AM Yep, and also when the contacts get hot, it'll fail to start. stanzz 07-11-2006, 04:54 PM well, i took off the positive terminal bolt on the battery, and it was pretty rusty. I cleaned it off a bit, I'l have to get a new one. I'll also get the battery checked out too. Thanks for the sugg. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
