what does it mean when there is a leak containing the evaporation emission on a 98 ford taurus

Coould mean you gas cap is not tight.

Use some wire ties as hose clamps and clamp the hoses in the evap system. I have seen these leak vapors on brand new cars. You may need a new seal on your gas cap.

Is the code P0442 or P0455? Each one is for a leak in the emission system, but each has a different route for repair. The P0442 is for a small leak, less than .020 in diameter. P0455 is for a gross leak, larger than .040 in diameter.
