98 Villager Intermittent A/C problem??!!

I have a 98 Villager with an intermittent A/C problem that has me mystified. Sometimes the A/C works, sometimes it does not. I have proper freon (134a) pressure, the high and low pressure switches are good, and the A/C relay is new. When I turn the A/C on the Fast Idle relay kicks in, the idle speeds up, but the clutch wont kick in or the fan wont come on. I can get the clutch to come on by jumping the A/C relay, but it wont stay engaged on its own. Today it worked but the clutch cycled quickly. I traced the schematics from the Haynes manual and the only device I have been unable to find or check is the ECCS control module(listed in the schematic pg 12-59). I can find no other referance to this module. I belive this is the same as the PCM module? If anyone can help with this frustating problem, please let me know.

I know that I discussed a fix for this thing in another thread. It is most likely your ac/heat control unit. There is a even a right up with color pictures somewhere on the net. I am going to check for it and if i find it I will post the link.

Well this is for the rear ac but it can help you in finding your problem which it proably just that and you can test it with the volt meter or the old tap on the sides test.

I may have your answer. I have a 97 Villager and was having the same problem several years ago. I even took it to the dealership and paid good money for them to tell me nothing was wrong. One day I stopped the van when the a/c stopped working and raised the hood with the engine running and wiggled the wires going into the a/c compressor. I heard a relay click so I got back in the van and checked the a/c and it was blowing cold air. My problem was with the actual plug itself. I discovered that it wasn't making a connection when pushed all of the way in. I left the van running with the a/c switch on and disconnected the plug. I then pushed the plug into the compressor until I heard the click and I stopped inserting the plug at that point. The a/c has worked well ever since. Good luck

the pressure switch on top of accumulator/drier may be going bad. try disconnecting it and jumping the terminals on the plug with a piece of wire. see if compressor will come on. i have heard these switches are notorious for failing.
