Does anyone know about the specs on this car, i'm most espescially interested in the tranny, wondering how solid it is, and will it hold up to big power?:devil:

Yeah the toro's are built even the trans are rock solid and handle many beatings and many miles. I would get on for sure.

I've owned two 1966 Toronados, a 68, and a 69. I still have the 68.
The transmission is the same Turbo-Hydramatic 400 that came in shitloads of GM vehicles from that era.
The idea of taking the TH400, turning it backwards so that the output faced the front of the car, and putting a chain from the torque converter to the flywheel totally freaked out lots of people who thought it would never work.
I SEEMS like it would be an unkillable transmission...but now we get to actual experience.
The 66 Toronado I got was on its THIRD transmission. I had the paperwork for the two AAMCO replaced. I've heard of other Toronados that had transmission replaced as well.
The reason for this is...boats!
Everybody and their fuckin' dog figured out the Toronado was the best boat-pulling car of all time! You could back the boat trailer into the lake without getting the front wheels wet!
The 4,300 pound car had great traction for getting back out of the lake pulling the boat.
My theory is that rich people hauled ass in their Toronados pulling massive boats until they smoked the tranny.
