Depends on what style racing, road race, drag, street. Usually this needs major engine upgrades internally and externally, forced induction, nitrous. Suspension, lightweight wheels, aerodynamics, and a good engine tuner. Like i said it all depends on what racing, if you want a 10sec street car then its going to cost some serious cash. 12 sec range is easily possible but still it will come at a price.

Since its a 97 you have the possibility of switching to an h series engine which is a dramatic boost in power from the factory f series, if its v6 then that is a nice power platform but im not sure how good the aftermarket is. The h series im currently bulding after i get the block sleeved, and the right parts it can handle 25psi internally, and if i keep my current plans it will be capable of hitting the low 11's high 10's on 15 psi. Once again i have a long road ahead and the current h23 thats in there was a nice boost in power. Im staying non vtec to try and be different.

Like i said it depends on what you want.

Well what trim accord is it, V6, ex, lx. If it has the f22 engine then that would be a good start. Look around for an H-series engine h22a, h23a, depending on what you want vtec, non vtec. You can also look into the f20a/b series. The good thing about the h series is that they are direct replacement for the f series, axles, mounts, transmisson and in some cases ecu. This engine is a nice replacement for the sohc 2.2. You would need a lsd differential for good traction if you plan on getting good power. Then begins the fun, internals, (cranks, rods, pistons, race bearings, rings, high perf. oil pump, water pump). Head work, high perf, springs, valves, retainers, guides). If your looking for high boost, then you would need to either sleeve the block or look into the new coated pistons that are made to handle boost. After all this you will need to look into a decent turbo, turbo manifold, intercooler, piping, BOV, i would stay external wastegate only because it gives you more freedom with boost. Next you will need a better intake manifold made to flow high amounts of air. After you get the main engine components done you will need to upgrade the ignition, this would be wires, cap, distributor module. Now comes the finishing parts of the system, exhaust and intake setup, for the turbo setup you wont need much just a high flow turbo filter, for the exuast you need a down pipe, 2.5 at the smallest and a nice high flow muffler. Now that you have a nicely built setup you need a new fuel management system and programable stand alone or piggy back ecu. Now you need a profesional dyno tuner to get the cam timing, ignition timing and the rest of the engine systems running at there peak.

For small basic engine build up it can cost between 1500 for a bolt on setup, to about 6500-10k depending on quality of parts and how far your willing to go.

I would say somewhere between 3500 for wheels, bolt ons, light tuning, and maybe some higher quality head parts. It really depends on ow far, how fast, and how much your willing to spend.

IVe built, and helped build a few nasty street machines so its a routine now. I would say if you have money to burn and dont care about anything except speed. Throw a 150 shot nitrous on it and hope the damn block and head dont seperate. Nah jk dont do that thats seriously retarded.

I know fast cars are not cheap to build, and its even worse when you want them to be reliable, so good quality parts and engine longetivity come at a price. And yes i see these threads once a month at the very least the search feqture would save some threads from popping up oh well, i was a newb once to.
