Playing with a GTI and a kill with a Subie.Polygon 07-03-2006, 10:43 AM Well, since the Sebring is gone I've been driving the GTC to work until the Stealth arrives. Today on the way to work I ran across a guy with a 1.8t GTI that work at the same place I do. So we mess around with each other and even in my cars crap condition he wasn't walking on me as bad as I had thought being that he claims he has a chip, short ram, and exhaust. Anyhow, we get to the bottom of the hill and there is a turbo Subie wagon that wants in on the action. It wasn't a WRX or anything. We get to a light and I rev up the engine to let her know my intentions. When the light went green I didn't launch, she did. Didn't matter, I passed her in first and just blew her away. For having a turbo, that was one SLOW car. Hell, I can’t even go WOT. Worse than stock which is 174 HP and 210 ft/lbs of torque. I'm pretty sure the timing is off, but mostly I have a boost leak. The entire vac system is shot so I can't give it full throttle or I'll hit the overboost cut. so did you beat the gti.....I got lost... We weren't racing, mostly playing around, but when I pushed it as hard as I could he didn't walk on me much and I know he was WOT. This leads me to believe that he is a lying sack and that he is pretty much stock. I don't think he has it chipped. And he thinks his GTi will beat my R/T when it gets here. :lol: Gotian 07-05-2006, 11:44 AM if it was chipped and the lebaron is in the condition you say, he wouldve raped you faster than a 40 year old perv....well you get the idea, if he was stock and you were at optimal condition it wouldve been a very good race. what year is the GTI, cause that make a difference too. Polygon 07-05-2006, 01:38 PM I'm not sure of the year, but it's a MKIV 20th, so that means he's about 500 pounds heavier than the GTC plus he had an extra person in the car. He does talk a lot of shit and I figured if it was chipped he would have blown my doors off. He also claims to have an LSD, fuel rail, chip, short ram, catback, and a fuel pump. He says that the chip is programmed to give him 250WHP and he is on the stock K03 sport. From what I've been told that's not possible without a bigger turbo. I don't know, but he also called a BOV and a turbo timer performance mods, so you be the judge. Personally, I think he's full of shit. He was faster, but not much. Gotian 07-05-2006, 03:01 PM the 20th is a 2003, those had 180hp 180tq, the only difference about the 20th is that it is 6speed. stock for stock compared to a 5speed gti, the 5 speed would beat it cause acceleration suffers a bit in the 6 speeds, and no the 6 speeds are not better in top end with the gti's. So I think at optimal performance you probably wouldve won. Now as for the mods, he's talking shit. They dont make short rams for Any of the VW 1.8t's sumply because al the hot air is there. There is no chip that will give you 250whp for the 1.8t, even with a turbo upgrade to the KO4 you get a up to 245 unless you up the boost. Putting an LSD in our cars would slow it down cause it has its own version of an LSD without all the mechanical parts so keeping it stock gives the most power (the LSD). If he had any form of aftermarket intake you'd hear it, trust me, same goes with the catback. The fuel pump doesnt do shit unless you upped the boost so ask him how much he's pushing and even then he doesnt need a new fuel pump unless he's pushing about 300whp with another turbo. The outcome in the R/T is pretty predictable. I just need to send the downpipe out to Jet-Hot to get coated. However, I have to wait until the Stealth gets here to do the vac system since the GTC is my only car right now. I'll race him in both and get videos of both then post them up here. I'm sure with the exhaust the GTC will take him down. As an update, I was talking to a guy who rides to work with him. I don't believe anything he says anymore. I think once the exhaust is done it will make a HUGE difference since the pipe is all crush bent and at one point goes down below two inches, plus you all can see the tailpipe that could be clogged with a baby carrot. It is all being replaced with 3" mandrel bent pipe from the turbo back, new high flow cat, DynoMax Race Bullet muffler, and a Borla Intercooler tip. It sucks that I have to send the DP out to get coated and it isn't cheap, but it will be worth it especially when I get the new header that will be coated as well. That will help a ton with exhaust scavenging. Right now you can tell there is a ton of back pressure and for what reason I don't know but stock Chrysler choked the exhaust on these cars. It will make a HUGE difference; I can't wait to get it done. :sunglasse Igovert500 07-11-2006, 01:03 PM I've heard that sooo many times from co-workers with GTIs. They think swapping to xenons, taking out their passenger seat, chipping it, and putting a euro plate on means they will be waxing my vr4. Always good for a laugh.
