I have a 2000 suburban 1500 with 73K miles, and I've noticed that when I engage the transaxle into 4 wheel auto mode the transaxle shutters at slow speeds while turning right or left. I don't use 4 wheel drive very often but when it was new I did take it off road a few times and I don't ever recall it shuddering like it is now. Could the axle fluid have broken down and in need of replacing, and if so what is the procedure and type of replacement fluid required. I'd really appreciate and help or suggestions on what the problem may be, since I would hate to have the dealership get their hands on it, who knows what it would cost me.

Thanks, kwk2

Welcome to AF, this is not an uncommon problem if it is in A4wd, not 4wd, there is a reprogramming issue and/or replacement of the transfer case module to correct this, I do not believe a fluid change will correct this..
