I need to know what other automatic transmissions I can hook up to this engine with the corresponding transfercase. I dont mind buying an adapter plate. I got the A518 (46RElectronic\46RHydraulic) automatic transmission with the NV242 full time 4WD. I need to save gas money so Id prefer a part time 4WD system. Something where I can drive in 2wd in the city, and wheel in the mud in 4hi or 4 low.

I havent narrowed down what the cause is yet. If its the axles, no sweat I am replacing them with larger ones anyway. I think its the transmission thats messed up. Its loud, goes with the revs when driving, but at rest there is no weird sounds. Could also be the full time 4WD (NV242) that I got. I want to toss them both out and throw in something that can bolt right up. Do I have to worry about the electronics?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The all -time 4WD transfer case is the NV or NP 249 transfer case, the 242 is a selec-trac Transfer case (2HI, 4HI part time, 4HI full time, N, 4LO). I also get some front axle noise when driving, more noticeable at speeds aboue 45mph. I give it gas the whine is there, if I let off it's gone then returns as soon as the speeds starts to slow down.... This is due to worn Pinion bearings in the front axle. Also Differential bearings and wheel bearings cause noise, but are ussually constant with vehicle travel and does not pertain to load or unload the the engine..
