two races Z24 vs ZX3 and Z24 vs 350Zdwb985 07-01-2006, 12:21 AM the first one was just stupid......i'm just cruising around at about midnight calming down from a bad night.....and i catch up to a riced out ZX3 well he thinks i want to race cause i caught up quick and he trys to get me to race for a little while and finally after trying for 3 minutes i'm ready to get him to just leave me alone so i honk he guns it (he gunned it on one honk by the way and is already a car length ahead) gets about 3 or 4 car lengths on me as i gun it and just catch up in a hurry and passed him and put a length on him at 70 and then hit 90 and he stopped going faster so i let off and got over cause it turns from a four lane to a two lane.....stop light comes up after about 1500 feet its red so i stopped for it he's ready to go from a stand still behind me light turns green i hit the gas by 60 i had put 4 or 5 lengths (i figured since i put that much on him he must suck at driving) i shut down and hit the hazards well he goes flying by and then i got my answer.....a road comes up on the left and he spins the car around with the handbrake and almost lands in the ditch. the next one.....i pulled up next to a 350Z at a light and he revs in his engine my first thought of course is :wtf: i mean its a stock Z24 but i figured what the hell lets give it a shot......light goes green we hit it he smokes me he puts alot of car lengths on me i'm hitting 50 and then i figured he must have screwed something up seriously or something broke cause the front end of his car does a nose dive and i go flying by at 75.....well i saw him pull off the road so i went back......found out he threw a rod.....i gave him a ride to his house he had called his wife before told her what had happened she was waiting when i pulled up i looked at her she was mad i said to Mike "this is the part where you die, run or talk really fast" i felt sorry for him though he has to tell people he damaged his engine to beat a stock Z24 -The Stig- 07-01-2006, 12:24 AM Wow... he threw a rod ??? Talk about warranty repair on that thing. He shouldn't be worried, a car that new the dealership will handle it. 209 SRT 07-01-2006, 12:49 AM I dont think he was worried about the damage to the car....more so telling the ball and chain what happend....thats the sucky part.... -The Stig- 07-01-2006, 01:04 AM This is where being Gay would be beneficial. "Hank, I blew the motor in the Z racing some turd." "Bummer Joe... want a BJ?" "Fuck yeah." ac427cpe 07-01-2006, 01:21 AM my gf would just be like "so the stupid car is gone now?" CassiesMan 07-01-2006, 02:10 AM Wow... he threw a rod ??? Talk about warranty repair on that thing. He shouldn't be worried, a car that new the dealership will handle it. Isn't there that little clause in the warrenty along the lines that if you are beating on the car real bad, they wont fix it? Or was that just a Mistu controversy? -The Stig- 07-01-2006, 02:19 AM Yeah, Mitsu was said to send out it's 'spies' out to local racing venues like Auto-x and 1/4 mile tracks and take down your info, like plate number and enter your info into their database and note that you 'abuse' the car and warranty is void. Never heard definate proof of it, but sounds kinda shitty. Still, how can they prove that you're abusing it (refering back to Nissan about the Z)? I mean, the car is designed to be driven hard... it is a sports car for crying out loud. Fact of the matter is, it probably would of broke regardless if the guy was racing or not. Might of been a bad bearing, or bad rod cap bolts or a number of things. Sometimes things go wrong. The engine failed, they'll have to honor his warranty. Still, how can they prove that you're abusing it (refering back to Nissan about the Z)? I mean, the car is designed to be driven hard... it is a sports car for crying out loud. My understanding is that the modern computers put into cars today record EVERYTHING that happens in the car...mechanically at least. I don't know about sex, though that would be creepy. I've been told, although this may be another scare tactic, that anytime the CEL or any other idiot light comes on, the computer saves all the information of everything that was going on at the moment. Hell, I've even had techs at the BMW dealership ask my how stable the car felt at 140. I was like...how would you have any clue I've been that fast? Fact of the matter is, it probably would of broke regardless if the guy was racing or not. Might of been a bad bearing, or bad rod cap bolts or a number of things. Sometimes things go wrong. The engine failed, they'll have to honor his warranty. I hope thats the case. It would suck to have to buy a new VQ, I don't think they are cheap. CassiesMan 07-01-2006, 03:31 AM Oh, and good kills. I like those Z24s, nice cars, kinda like the whole, angular look to them. Although it was nice of Nissan to pick the biggest V6 possible and shove into an engine bay that makes the Mini's seem huge... MaXXuS 07-01-2006, 03:39 PM My understanding is that the modern computers put into cars today record EVERYTHING that happens in the car...mechanically at least. This is what I was told by a guy at my local mitsu dealer when I still had my evo, everything being your braking, acceleration, and downshifting etc, also locating reasons if something brakes. Those are only mitsus though i know other cars have that stuff, but I worked at a chevy dealership for almost 3 years and their ecus didnt record shit, I saw them doing warranty jobs on OBVIOUSE fuck-ups, like an aveo with exhuast that had a blown head(AUTOMATIC NO LESS!). So maybe only higher end or performance cars have those options on the ecu? That sux that dudes wife was all poed, its kinda pointless. 98StangGT 07-01-2006, 03:52 PM My understanding is that the modern computers put into cars today record EVERYTHING that happens in the car...mechanically at least. That is only for obtaining information about the events that took place during a wreck. It can measure how fast the car was travelling before it hit/was hit by something, if the brakes malfunctioned, etc. As far as I know dealerships are not allowed to use that paticular device without the owner's permission. Yea but for the expensive cars like evo's and up if some dumb ass parent buys their 17 year old kid (something that makes my stomach churn) an Evo for instance and he drives it off the lot redlining the shit out of it, he is bound to blow that motor, well the dealership has to be able to prove it was abuse on a car like that, so the computer has to record how the car was driven as well as the cause for the motor blowing. I am curiouse as to what other car companies implement that kind of insurance though..? dwb985 07-01-2006, 09:57 PM well i guess they don't or something all i know is it goes in the shop to be fixed under the warranty monday meanwhile he's stuck being a passenger cause the wife won't let him drive the other car. SiGNAL748 07-02-2006, 01:02 AM There are far too many Z's involved in this story. 98BlackTransAm 07-02-2006, 02:05 AM my gf would just be like "so the stupid car is gone now?" ain't that the truth :twak: BlaxicanYIIK 07-23-2006, 12:50 PM How exactly is a rod thrown? Is it when you are going into 5th or 6th gear, but you go into 1st, 2nd, or 3rd instead? Or is it when you are past redline for an extended amount of time. Or is that something else? Musashi3000GT 07-23-2006, 01:23 PM It can happen at anytime. and by "rod" we mean conecting rod: the rod that wraps over the crank shaft and clips to the piston not a transmission shaft! You throw rods usually due to badly worn internals, bad lubrication.
