1992 CV LX. I need to replace my starter and the guy at the parts depot asked if I needed a 2 or 3 bolt, how can I tell without having the starter removed?? If mine is a 2 bolt can I replace with a 3 bolt?...3 with a 2?? Does it matter?

The 2 and 3 bolt are not interchangable. The mounting holes are different and a different size mounting base.

The engin was replaced on the car before I got it, so the door sticker will not be of much help.

The motor does not matter. The starter attaches to your transmission.

I've located the body of the car that the motor/transmission I have originally came from, so I can check the sticker on the door. What is it I need to look for? Specific dates???
Thanks

Two bolt then.
Three bolt starters came with the May '92 and older units, and the AODE trans.
You have an AOD trans, and two bolt starter (if the numbers are correct).
