1.9L fuel injectors

I have a '96 wagon with the 1.9 with 190,000+ miles.

When under load, foot on the gas trying to get up to speed it misses like a cylinder not firing. It's really bad with the A/C on and I've recently noticed some pinging under load. I get no codes from the PCM and idle is perfect.

All the "normal" stuff has been checked and or changed. I.E. plugs, wires, coil pack, EGR system(valve and sensors), both O2 sensors, MAF sensor, ECT sensor. Cleaned throttle body, etc. Fuel pressure is fine. (I installed a new pump just in case.) Timing belt is new within last 40K.

Now I'm to the point I am checking the injectors. Can somebody tell me what the resistance of the injectors is supposed to be? Haynes shows 11 to 18 ohms. Is this correct? I am showing O ohms on at least one injector. However if I disconnect it and run the engine you can feel a miss that's not there when it is connected, which tells me it is firing.

I'm kind of stumped.

My Bad! Just rechecked the injectors and they read 15.5 ohms. Must not have had the leads tight against the contacts.

Still stumped...

190,000 miles.... when did you last have your timing belt changed? Perhaps it has slipped a tooth or two?

It's got about 40,000 or less on the belt. I'd check the timing with a light if it could be done.

I agree with Mighty Mouse. Recheck the timing belt. I replaced mine recently and it wasn't quite running right. When I rechecked it I found I was off by one tooth.

A Bad injector can still measure the correct ohms.

Inspect your crank pully, your crank trigger get's it's signal from the teeth that are located at the edge of the crank pully. The pully has 2 halfs that are joined with rubber, if it slip's your ignition timing will be off.

Have you done a compression check?

Finally had time to check the timing belt and found it was off by one tooth. The car has 187,000 miles on vs what I posted earlier. I have a Ranger with over 190K, but hey what's 3K.

Anyway, I had the timing belt replaced by a Goodyear dealer at 140K when my wife was driving it as her daily driver go to work car. When I started driving it in December I noticed the problems. She says it hasn't run right for a long time and everybody from Ford to the place that put the timing belt on has looked at it trying to fix the rough running and lack of power.

It still has a litle miss at high revs, but has a whole lot more torque and power. I figure the miss will work itself out after I blow the crap out of the cylinders with my highway driving.

It just goes to show if you want something done right...do it yourself.

It's a common problem. Had a 94 wagon and a 97 sedan that both had the separation from the pulley and the timing ring. The 94 still ran but the 97 had the timing off so far that it wouldn't. Took it to the dealer and he pressed the two halves back together and charged me for a new crank pulley. Ouch!
