i am tring to find the best rear end to put on my 1971 nissan 280zx so i can put slicks on it without them sticking out too far someone said "use a ford 9 in. but that would be alot of hard work" so i was wondering if anyone else has a sug.

'71 280zx?

In 1971, it was 240z. You sure you don't have a 1981 280zx?

Ha, it's okay, I figured that's what you did...anywho.

If you've got a 280zx, you should have a R200 rear differential. The R200 is a damn strong rear end.

Now, what this you're saying about getting tires that won't stick out past the car?

That's easy, just buy correct fitting tires for your rims. Or if you're buying new rims, buy rims that fit the car with proper offset so they sit flush. You don't need to pull out that rear end for a ford 9". That's stupid, you'd only do that if you were planning on making the car a dedicated drag racer with times of sub-10 seconds.

As it is now, I don't know what your engine mods are like, so I can't say what you might be making power wise. I'm going to assume you've got a L28E in your 280zx... you made no mention of turbo.

ok i was not shur if i should use that rear end i hope it will work that woould me cheeper then a new one. yes i concidered different rims and i was just waiting for some one to say it. i dont want it to be an all dedacated racer becuse it is so fun to drive on the strret (like when you pull up next a "ricer" a they rev there engine then i flip the header dump switch and watch there jaw drop), for power it has a V8 from a repoed iroc not shur of the year got it from my uncle. right now with street tires i run low 13's to high 12's.

Your rear end should hold up for quite a long time with that amount of power. The R200 can take A LOT of abuse.

I think it's safe to say, you're good to go for some time, just make sure it's got plenty of oil in the diff and you should be fine.
