Hi,
I just bought a 1999 CV with 50K KM from this old guy that took realy good care of the car but did not drive much. The car just had the battary replaced, oil cange etc. Drove it for a week and all was fine then one day doing 120 KMH I get the battery light on for a few seconds and the gone. It usualy happens at high speed once a day after the car is stending for like 8hours or so. I read some on this site and could not find anyone with the same problem. Car was checked at the dealer and battery is fine so is the charge system. I am at loss anyone has any idea?
Thank You

Look at the small wire on the back of the alternator to be sure it has a good connection. If it is loose or loses connection, the light will come on.

Hi,
Thank you for the responce. Do I need to remove anything to get to the back of the alternator ?

Maybe just the plastic shield on top of motor, if it has one. The wire plugs into the top of alternator. It is easily accessible.

Hi,
Checked the alternator wires and all is good. But still the light goes on for a few seconds roughly once a day and usually after the car stands for 4 to 10 hours. Any ideas what could it be? Could it be a relay problem? And if so which one?
Thanks

There is a possibility since the light comes on at high speeds that the serpentine belt is slipping a little. This could be due to a cracked belt, stretched belt, weak tensioner, or road grime built up in pulleys. Can you get the light to flicker with car sitting still and revving the engine?

So far I can't get the light on when the car is standing ideling for like 5 minutes. Today it also started to flicker when the air was just turned on.

Look closely at the belt tensioner, or a stretched belt.

I checked the belt and it looks fine. How often do you have to change the belt? I asked the previous owner and it looks like this one was not changed in 6 years.

If belt is 6 years old, I would change it. That is a lot of time on the belt that runs everything on the engine.

Hi
Belt was changed on Friday. No problems over the weekend but this morning the light came on again for a few seconds as it was before. Note that this only happens once a day in the begining of the drive and then it goes away for the rest of the day / drive. It seams like it only happens after the car sits for 4 to 8 hours. Any ideas ? does anyone else on this form experiances something like that ?
Thank You

Did some trial and error and found that when ac is off for a few days the light does not come on. So if its the ac, what could it be ? Relay ?

Look closely at the front of the compressor. There is a piece that should not turn with the engine running and a/c off/ There should be an air gap of about .020 to .029. See if the gap is there. Could be the clutch is drawing too much current when the a/c comes on. The clutch assembly is replacable without removing the compressor or the refrigerant. Thanks for working with us on this. Be interesting to find out what the culprit is. I have a lot of Fords in my fleet and may run across it later.
