96 explorer obd2 0455 emission control leaktjh196 06-18-2006, 02:37 PM I am having a problem finding a vacuum leak on this explorer and i am wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I have pulled a code 0455, which says Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (gross leak). I guess this means that there is a vacuum leak but i am not sure. The vehicle runs fine but the MIL is on and the air conditioner has quit working. The only code that I can get out of it is p0455. I am not sure if this type of problem would cause the air to quit working so I would appreciate any help. I am not very familiar with fords so I dont know. I am at wits end with this vehicle. Please Help. way2old 06-18-2006, 03:03 PM The P0455 means you have a large leak in the evap system somewhere. Most of the time it is the gas cap seal. The code has nothing to do with the air conditioner problems. You need to check all fuses and relays for the A/C. You can jump the low pressure switch on the accumulator to see if the compressor engages. If it does, you either are low on refrigerant or have a bad switch. tjh196 06-18-2006, 03:22 PM Thank you i appreciate your help i will replace the gas cap and i guess the air conditioner has a leak because i just recharged it a month ago because it was not putting out cold air. The air was cooling fine when i recharged it and i know the compressor is ok. thanks a lot for your time vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
