Cutting out when at a low speedriabie 06-18-2006, 10:37 AM I have a 95 ford escort in the UK and when driving at a low speed the car just seems to either chugg or cut out. It doesnt happen all the time but is becoming more frequent. Its a 1400cc fuel injection. Any ideas what this could be?:banghead: mightymoose_22 06-19-2006, 12:00 PM Could be a number of things... if plugs and wires are old, replace them. If they are new, make sure they are all connected well. I once knew someone with a stalling/lack of power problem and it turned out one of the plug wires was loose and he was only running on 3 cylinders. Hmm... you may want to stop by a shop and have them test your alternator too... perhaps it isn't putting out enough at low speeds. Bryx 07-12-2006, 03:03 PM I was having the same problem when I found the rotor was almost completely melted, there must have been very little spark gettign to the engine. works good now. 12Ounce 07-12-2006, 06:09 PM Some vacuum leaks are more noticeable at low speeds. mightymoose_22 07-12-2006, 08:17 PM It start with checking for a vacuum leak. There are hoses on top of the intake manifold... you should find them easy... check them out... including the one that is capped. There is a particular one that likes to crack on the back side... have a good look. Of course, it could be leaking from anywhere, but this is an easy place to look. It is also easy enough to verify our plug wires are tight... I too caught myself running on 3 cylinders one time. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
