92 Blazer Engine swap to 97 Olds Bravada

hi there
does any one have any advice about swapping a rebuilt engine and trans from a 92 chevy s-10 blazer to a 97 olds bravada. The blazer trans has a switch to transfer from 4wd h/l.I know ill have to change the 4wd sensers in the wheels.
Also the wiring harness. It seems easier said then done. Thanx for any advice

The computer, diagnostics and vehicle wiring is completely different between a '92 and '97. I think you can use the '92 engine shortblock.

What's wrong with the '97 drivetrain?

The trans jumps when you go around turns because i think the smart trek is tring to engage.When this happened the engine light would come on and give me a code. I forget the code off the top of my head but when i checked it to see if servicable it would require the dealership. So i took it to aamco they said it needs to be rebuilt. Also i think the engine either blew a head gasket or the block is cracked.We had pepboys look over it after two water pumps had been defective, they said it was the upper intake manifold, well the upper intake man. only has fuel lines and air. no anyifreeze. Anti freeze flows through the lower manifold. I replaced the upper man and lower man gaskets To my surprize it still leaks like a siv. The 92 drive train is much simpler idea less b/s sensers.I would only lose 30 hp.The trans in the 92 has insta trek which will allow my finger to control it instead of the brain in the truck. I wouldnt even consider any of this if i didnt wreck my truck.

Try calling some chain type auto parts store for a free computer check, let them retrieve the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) and we'll talk about them.
The Smartrac on a 1997 is the old reliable mechanical viscous clutch arrangement, the computer does not control it....the 1998 and newer has the computer/encoder motor system.
Where does the water leak hit the ground? Can you see where the leak is?

aamco got sued by the states attorney generals awhile back because 90 percent of the time they said you need a rebuild. thought they had changed their ways since then. with tranny's always get a second opinion. ask around for a refferal, auto parts stores can usualy direct you to one that has a good reputation. i'd stick with the smart trak. i love the way it kicks in and out automaticaly in the snow. and i agree with Chris about using the 92 engine as a short block. keeping your wiring and top end from the 97 will give you more power and will be an easier swap out without all the ongoing problems from jury rigging things.

The leak was coming off the oil pan down the front of block. Waterpump
Again!!!!!!:thefingerto pepboys. Anyway i replaced it and it runs great:thumbsup:.The trans runs good but when you come to a stop after 20-25 miles on the highway it will jump into first gear. no engine light but the DTC say
(P1870pd Mod$10 Manfacurer Contrl. Transmission.) Now when i erase the codes it runs perfect. thanks guys

P1870..Transmission component slippage detected. This DTC kinda points towards the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) with various reasons. If you feel a shudder going up a grade at highway speeds, the TCC may be slipping. I've has this in the '92 Bravada and a fluid and filter change took care of it 8 or 9 years ago with no trouble since....just something to look at.
