82 Olds vs. Turbo Laser

So I was riding with a friend of mine in his recently purchased Olds Cutlass, the same car I put together for another friend about six months ago. We came up to a four lane bridge leading into the city going about 30 and this Laser pulls up next to us, he's a kid I know and he's got his girlfriend with him, he revs and I hear his turbo whine and before I could turn my head and tell the driver he was a waste of time I hear the shifter click into low gear and my head snapped back, even though the Cutlass has a stock rear end and gears with a built 383 it has wicked low end torque and decent high end because of the shallow gears, so we pull three car lengths on him before hitting 80 and slow back down to 30. After we slowed the Laser goes flying by us, sore loser. Later that night we were stopped at a gas station filling up and eating a burrito, and the kid in laser drives up and informs us how badly he smoked us and that V8s are slow. We just sat their and finished our burritos astounded by this kids inability to take a loss. So oh well another ricer bites the dust and will deny it to the day he dies. But overall a good night got to watch a race the second best vantage point and got a microwave gas station burrito.

Was it a Chrysler Laser or a Plymouth Laser?

I've raced my friend's Laser and it's a quick little car. The only thing he has done to it is increased the boost to about 12-15 lbs. and did some minor little things to it. He gave my Mustang a damn good run though. It's a blast to drive and handles pretty good too.

It's the one that looks like a 1g Eclipse, the Plymouth I think.

Good kill. I wouldn't take anything he said to heart. I remember smoking a Celica REALLY bad on the freeway with my former Evo. He kept passing by me and putting on his hazards. Some people are just colossal jerks.

You should see a vid that's online with some dickheaded mustang cobra owner (96-98 Cobra). He basically gets on it, without the other person knowing that he is going for it, and when they start to gain up he hits the hazards and presses the brakes. At every stop light he then proceeds to tell the guys that their car is slow, and that he won't waste the gas on them. Basically the guy is a jerk.

What's the difference????

Yea I know this guy at my school who told some kid with a stock auto talon that he had at least 190hp :disappoin ... Nice kill though, You said it's nice down low, but does it fall flat on it's face up high or what's the deal??

The Cutlass doesn't really fall on it's face when it comes to high end it just has a distinct lack of acceleration past about 6200, but it pulls hard from 1500 to 6000 due in part to the 3500 stall converter. And I don't really understand what was so suprising about a modded Cutlass beating a stock Laser, I mean it is a GM metric car and is almost identical to Monte Carlo and a Regal. And this Cutlass is a far cry from being stock with a new 383 stroker under the hood.

modded 383 stroker vs stock 4g63 (I think).....Im not suprised but how much does the scraper weigh....

If they are the 90 to 94 turbo talons, they do have 190hp. The 95-98 ones have 210.

Good kill. The Plymouth lasers can be made fast cheap but in relatively stock form, it wouldn't stand a chance to the modded Cutlass.

You're surprised that a built 383 Olds beat a Laser Turbo? Fools probably kicking out well over 300whp. I'm not surprised to say the least.

i think xxxrocker meant that it was an auto = trans power loss

Ahh, I misinterpreted. The auto DSMs from 90-94 also have a smaller turbo than the manuals so he could mean that too. They are still both rated at 190hp.

I have a laser rs turbo it looks like the blue one minus the rims.
It is a 4g63t with a 13g turbo rated at 180 hp because its an auto.
the manuals have 10hp more. Also has smaller injectors, turbo and cam.
Its fun to drive but can't handle a modded cutlass...not stock anyways.
