Hi I dont have an airbrush and I dont intend on buying one yet, so I was just wondering how I can acheive a flat red colour using tamiya spray paints? Perhaps spraying red over black? im not sure. Thanks.

If you put red over black it will not cover completely and you'll get dark red, not flat red, or it will cover completely, and you'll get gloss red.

Matt varnish over red is the best option.

How about just using flat red paint?

If you're willing to branch out to other manufacturers, Testors makes an excellent flat red. Testors gets into trouble when they try to shoot glosses through their crummy cans, but flats work wonderfully.

I dont really like painting large areas plus it isnt as good a finish as spraying which I find much more fun.

Unless you are mistaken and mean something else, this should solve your problem: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHF83&P=7

ROFL, you can just use testors flat red spray paint from the can as posted. With this you do not have to do a flat overcoat or anything complicated.

I don't know about amazing, it is however saddening.

The question has been answered though, now if only we can convey it to our friend from Leeds in a manner he grasps?

um, indy mentioned a flat red finish using tamiya sprays. afaik there's no flat red tamiya spray, so you're gonna have to put a topcoat of semi-gloss or flat mr. color/gunze spray.

just be careful with overspraying the flat mr. color/gunze spray, it does have a knack for putting in white spots that stay even when dry.

Flat color exist?
Absolutely. It's sold in an envelope rather than a jar. You need to sand the corners off though once it has been applied.
